What is Softgun/Airsoft?

Softguns, also known as airsoft guns, are replica guns that fire 6mm plastic pellets (BBs). Most softgun models mimic real firearms and are used for hobby, competition and training purposes. The sport of airsoft is played all over the world and is growing in popularity.

Rules for Softgun in Norway

In Norway, the age limit for purchasing a softgun is 18 years. Children and young people under the age of 18 can only use a softgun under the supervision of an adult. It is not permitted to carry or use a softgun in public. Use must take place in appropriate places and always with due regard to laws and regulations.

Important concepts in Airsoft

  • AEG: Automatic electric weapon – powered by battery and often has semi- and full-auto function.
  • BBs: 6mm plastic balls, available in several weights for different precision and power.
  • Blowback: Recoil function that simulates the real gun experience when shooting.
  • GBB/GNB: Gas with or without blowback, common for pistols.
  • Hi-Cap magazine: Magazine with large capacity, often with wheels for rolling up bullets.
  • CQB: Play in tight spaces with limited range and lower FPS limit.
  • Gearbox: Contains the gear system in AEGs that drives the mechanism.
  • Hop-Up: Mechanism that gives the bullets backspin and improves range and precision.
  • FPS/MPS: Feet or meters per second – unit of measurement for the exit velocity of the bullet.
  • Pump action: Manual mechanism for loading between each shot, typical of shotguns.
  • R.I.S. , M-Lok, Keymod: Mounting systems for accessories on the weapon, such as lights, lasers and grips.

What ammunition does the softgun use?

Softguns use 6mm BB bullets, which come in different weights. Heavier bullets provide more stability and are often used in more powerful weapons. BIO balls are biodegradable and environmentally friendly, while Tracer bullets glows in the dark and is used with tracer silencers.
