Guide to choosing the right scope

Choosing the right riflescope can be difficult, but can give you an extremely large return and accuracy if you make the right choice! Here in At Game-On we have something for everyone! Whether you are a beginner or an expert, going hunting, airsoft games or just target shooting! In this guide we will go through the different specifications of a riflescope so that you know what you are looking for and need. We will also Explain what red dot sights and laser sights are and are used for.

Are you just wondering which riflescope is the best? It's probably not that simple, because it all depends on what you're going to use it for and what price you're willing to pay. But good news, we have most of them! Confused when you look at the different ones? No wonder, there are an incredible number of different elements and specifications in a riflescope. It's therefore no wonder you can get a little confused when it comes to choosing the right one! But we've collected everything you need to know in one guide!

Things to consider when buying riflescopes

The main question is of course what you are going to use the scope for, but other things to note are distance from the target, are you going to use it during the day with lots of light? Dusk or night? How much money you have planned/have the opportunity to spend is also important to think about because you can get scopes in all price ranges. Do you have strong recoil on your weapon? Scopes have different degrees of impact resistance, so that is an important factor to take into account. Sights that cannot withstand impact will break faster become worn and inaccurate. Do you need to be able to zero the sight and determine the distance? Then You should look for a scope with a click turret. You will then see adjustment options on the gear wheel in the top center. Otherwise, we will go through the main specifications below.

Enlargement

You can choose between fixed and variable magnification. For beginners, we recommend fixed magnification. It provides better reliability and is easy to use. This means that you choose a scope with, for example, 3x magnification. With variable magnification, you can choose magnification anywhere from 3x to 25x. This of course gives you more options regarding how far away you can be from the target, but it can also make the shot more difficult, as it will reduce the amount of light that escapes. into the binoculars and thus limit the field of view.

Lens Diameter

It tells us how much light is allowed in. The higher the diameter, the more light is allowed in. If you are going to use it at dusk or in a place with low light, anything over 50 mm is recommended. For use in daylight, anything from 24 mm will be common.

Reticle

Here at Game-On we have riflescopes with many different reticles also called crosshairs. A very regular crosshair and Mil-Dot. The red dot in the middle is supposed to make it easier to hit the target even in twilight.

There are many variations, all with the same purpose - to hit the target. But with slightly different methods.

Some reticles are First Focal Plane (FFP) which means that the reticle size remains unchanged even when you zoom in. When you zoom in you will then zoom in on the reticle as well.

Parallax adjustment vs fixed

Some riflescopes have parallax adjustments which means you can set the number of meters you are from the target. This way you will get the clearest sight picture and the least possible deviation between the aiming point and the impact point. This is only necessary during high precision, but is of course fun to have and it will help with accuracy! Most of the scopes we have are parallax fixed.

Red dot sight and laser sight

Red dot sights are not used as much for hunting and precision shooting as they are non-magnifiing.The However, it is used a lot in airsoft games because you can form a sight picture faster, and you can have both eyes open. This makes it easier to hit opponents that is moving or that is close to. A laser sight is usually a red or green laser that shines on what you are going to hit. It is not used much for hunting or airsoft games, but is quite fun to have for target shooting. Just be careful not to shine it directly into the eyes of either people or animals and it is strictly forbidden to shine it on aircraft. All our red dot sights can be found here and all our laser sights here.

Riflescopes for pistols and revolvers

It's not just rifles that can have scopes! Several pistols and revolvers come with rails that you can attach a telescopic sight. The most important thing when choosing a telescopic sight for a pistol and revolver is that you choose a sight that has a long "Eye relief". Eye relief allows you to hold the sight further away from your eye and still get a clear sight picture. Most sights are designed for use with rifles and thus have short eye relief.

You can find all our riflescopes here here! If you are still unsure, we are more than willing to help you make the right choice! Send us an email at post@game-on.no with any questions you may have.
