Different types of softguns – spring-operated, AEG and gas
Softguns come in different varieties, and the propellant determines both performance, price and application. Here we explain the difference between the three most common types: spring-operated (springer), electric (AEG) and gas-operated softguns.
Spring-operated rifles and spring-operated pistols
Spring-operated weapons must be manually loaded for each shot. They have few moving parts and are known for being both robust and affordable. Perfect for beginners and snipers who want simple mechanics. The downside? You have to reload between each shot.
Electric rifles (AEG) and electric guns
AEG stands for Auto Electric Gun and is powered by rechargeable batteries. These are very popular and offer both semi- and full-auto. They have a high rate of fire and are ideal for games that require quick response and high capacity. They are well suited for outdoor use in cold climates.
Gas-powered guns – with blowback (GBB) and without blowback (GNB)
Perfect for those who want realism! Gas and CO2 guns provide recoil (blowback) and an authentic feel. CO2 models use cartridges, while gas guns are filled with propane gas. Many models have semi-auto or full-auto. Blowback provides extra realism, but also requires higher maintenance.
